Breakfast Strata – A morning delicacy!

Breakfast StrataA sumptuous breakfast for the family on the Christmas morning! You can prepare the sausage strata and egg, on the previous night and just put them into the oven in morning when everyone is busy opening their presents and gifts.

Ingredients

Sausage meat (anything you like) – 500 g
Onion (chopped) – 1
Loaf egg (or other bread) – 1
Shredded cheese (any type) – 4 cups
Eggs (beaten) - 5
Milk – 3 cups

Mustard - 1 tbsp
Ground cayenne pepper - 1/2 tsp
Tomatoes (sliced) - 2
Parmesan cheese (grated) - 1/3 cup
Salt – 1 tsp

Method

Place the sausages in a skillet.
Put the onions into the skillet and cook on medium heat till the sausages are light brown and onions are soft. Set the mixture aside.
Grease the baking dish and place the bread slices in it.
Put half portion of the sausage mixture and 1/3rd of shredded cheese on the bread layer.
Then add another layer of bread slices with the remaining half mixture and another 1/3rd of the shredded cheese.
In the end, place 3rd layer of bread slices and all of the left shredded cheese.
Take a bowl and beat the eggs, mustard, milk, cayenne and salt, together.
Pour the above mixture into the baking dish and wrap it with a plastic cover.
Refrigerate overnight or at least for 6 hours.
When you want to cook the dish, take off the plastic wrap, arrange the sliced tomatoes and sprinkle Parmesan cheese over it.
Bake at 180 degrees C (350 degrees F) till it puffs in the middle.
