Jacob was a nobleman whose life was not so good. His wife had died of a disease leaving him and his two daughters in utter depression. After losing all his money in bad and useless inventions, the family had to move from their castle into a small house, where the daughters did their own sewing, cleaning and cooking. Jacob became even more disheartened when the time came for his daughters to get married, as his daughters could not get married without property, money and dowries. One night, the daughters hung their stockings to dry, after washing it over the fireplace. Saint Nicholas, knowing the misery of Jacob, stopped by his hut on that night. Glancing in from the window, he saw that the family had already gone to bed. He also saw the daughter’s stockings hanging over the fireplace. Saint Nicholas was deeply moved, and he took four small bags of gold from his pocket and threw them one by one down the chimney, whereupon they landed in the stockings. The next morning, when Jacob awoke, he found stockings filled with gold. Jacob used that gold in his daughter’s weddings. Jacob was able to see his two daughters get married, and he lived a happy and long life. Funny Christmas Story – Naughty Jason Susan and her eleven-year-old brother, Jason, had been fighting and arguing since last year. Susan's parents told them that Santa was unhappy with them, as they were fighting and arguing. This had a little impact on Jason, who really did not understand. I will just have to tell Santa about your misbehavior, the mother said as she picked up the phone and dialed. Jason's was astounded as her mother solicited, “Mrs. Claus (it was actually Susan and Jason’s aunt not Mrs. Claus), if she could put Santa on the line.” Jason’s mouth dropped even further open, when her mother described to Santa (Jason’s uncle) how he was behaving. When his mother told Jason that Santa wanted to talk to him, he halfheartedly took the phone. Santa, speaking in a deep tone, elucidated to Jason how there would be no gifts to children who fought with their sisters. He would be watching, and he expected things to be better from this moment onwards. Jason somberly nodded to his every comment and quietly hung up the phone when he finished. After a short while, his mother (trying hard not to laugh at being so clever) asked Jason, “What did Santa say to you, darling?” In almost a soft voice, Jason, sadly but sarcastically stated, “Mummy, Santa said he won't be bringing any gifts to Susan this year.” |
